Chakra Imbalances: The Root

The major energy centers of your body, often referred to as chakras, can be

blocked, overactive, or under-active. These imbalances can cause mental, physical and emotional issues within the body and spiritual disconnect.

Below you will find the differences and how to resolve them.


Root Chakra- Gives you the sense of safety, groundedness, and belonging. Helps you feel calm, centered, and stable.

Location: at the base of your tail bone extending down

Associated Body Parts/functions: lower spine, adrenal glands, large intestine, anus, pelvic floor, bones, teeth, hips, feet, legs, coccygeal plexus, foundation, grounding, survival, stability, security nourishment, your physical identity

 Overactive Symptoms: Fear of change, rigid boundaries, overeating, obesity, hoarding, greed, sluggishness, anger (seeing red), impatience, materialism, aggression, violence, over-confidence

Under active Symptoms: feeling of insecurity and lack of safety even when no real threat is present, feeling like you don't fit in or belong, feeling spacey, fear, anxiety, disassociation between the mind, body, and spirit, you have a hard time being organized, financial difficulties, underweight, lack of desire to exist.

Physical Ailments that can be Associated with Root chakra Imbalance: Constipation, arthritis, digestive disorders such as IBS, problems with the bladder, colon, or lower back, unexplained aches and pains in the lower abdomen and pelvis, issues with the nerves such as problems with the arms, legs, feet, rectum, or tailbone

Emotional problems caused by root chakra imbalance: Anxiety, panic attacks, fear, worry, overthinking, depression, nightmares, feeling insecure about finances or basic needs, and feeling emotionally disconnected

Causes: Traumatic experiences especially pertaining to one's safety such as abuse, Basic needs are unmet, war, famine, serious disease/illness, near death experiences, disconnecting from spirituality

Balanced Sacral Chakra Indicators: Joyful, healthy sex life, playful, prosperity,

patience, passion, feeling connected, desire, being able to use imagination, ability to create/enjoy intimate relationships, able to experience life to the fullest

Ways to Balance on Your Own: self care, practicing mantras like ,"I am safe and my needs are met", practicing gratitude,

yoga poses: mountain, tree, warrior I, forward fold, & seated, stomping feet onto the ground, eating beets, radishes, carrots, potatoes, meat, beans, onion, garlic, pepper, and paprika, essential oils: rosemary, rosewood, sandalwood, black pepper, dear, ginger, clove, & patchouli, get outside with feet on the Earth, use a grounding mat, practice breathing exercises, Make your your basic needs are all met, visualization (feet grounding into the Earth like roots of a tree)



Seeking a Professional Solution: Reiki, IET, sound healing, acupuncture, biofeedback therapy, and crystal healing are all ways that can help open blockages. It is however, important to implement your own changes, practices, and habits to ensure you remain balanced.
